The Ramjas Inter School Debate
was first held in 1995 in English. Over
40 schools participated in the very
first debate. Encouraged by this
response, the debate in Hindi was begun
in the subsequent year. The debate is
held in two rounds–a preliminary and the
finals. Six teams from each qualify for
the Finals. The winners in the final
round, bag the Running trophy which they
get to keep with them for a year.
Each round of the debate has a
different topic. Topics are chosen by a
committee after much deliberations.
Eminent people from all walks of life
have judged the debates in various
years. Some of the personalities invited
were Mrs Louise Khurshid, Namita Gokhle,
the well-known author, television news
reader Rahul Singh, poet Surender Verma,
Mrs Alka Shankar and Mrs Naveen Menon.

An annual feature of Ramjas
Foundation, the Ramjas Inter School
Debates in English and Hindi were held
on 2nd and 3rd December 2010 at Rai
Kedarnath Auditorium. The preliminary
rounds were held earlier at Ramjas
School, Pusa Road. Over fifty schools
participated in this round.
The debates in the prelims round
were rich in quality and highly
absorbing. The arguments were
persuasive, convincing and wide-ranging.Judges
in both the debates were eminent
teachers from Delhi University and the
media.Ten teams each were selected for
the finals after grueling prelims.
The teams that made it in the
finals in English were Bal Bharti
Public School, Pitampura; Ramjas
School, Pusa Road;Appejay School,
Sheikh Sarai; Bal Bharti Public
School, Ganga Ram Marg; Birla Vidya
Niketan, Pushp Vihar; Army Public
School, Shankar Vihar; Vishwa Bharati
School, Noida; Dayawati Modi Academy,
Meerut; St. Thomas School and Ahlcon
Public School.
In Hindi the ten best teams were
Gyan Mandir School, Naraina; Ramjas
Sr. Sec. School No. 5; St Thomas
School; Dayawati Modi Academy, Meerut,
Ahlcon Public School; Alwar Public
School; Bal Bharti Public School,
Pitampura; Ramjas School, R.K. Puram;
Ramjas School, Pusa Road, Lovely
Public School, Priyadarshini Vihar.
The topics for debates at the
finals were
" India is billion strong" in
English and
"kaliyug ki yeh Riti Hai Bhai, Sab
Kuch Kaho Karo Kuchu Naahi" in Hindi.
The judges for the debates in
English were Dr. Anamika, Mr.
Priyadarshan and Ms. Rose Mary Marandi.
In Hindi, the judges were Dr. Meena
Sharma, Dr.Neelam Rishikalp and Dr.
Nritiya Gopal- all eminent scholars
and writers. Shri Salman Kurshid,
Minister of State(I/C) for Corporate
Affairs and Minority Affairs graced
the occasion as the Chief Guest for
the English debate. Shri Laxmi Shankar
Bajapai, director Aakash Vani, was the
Chief Guest at the debate in Hindi.
The winners of the Running trophy
in English were Bal Bharti Public
School, Pitampura and the Runners Up
was Birla Vidya Niketan. In Individual
Prizes, the First Prize went to Remya
of Appejay, Sheikh Sarai. The Second
prize went to Aditi Aggarwal of Bal
Bharti Public School, Pitampura,
Mridul Mahajan of Bal Bharti Public
School , Pitampura and Prathishta of
Birla Vidya Niketan jointly bagged the
Third prize. The consolation prize was
awarded to Shruti of St. Thomas School
while Nilanjana Bhattacharjee and
Aditi Aggarwal were declared the best
interjectors in the prelims, Abinav
Krishnan and Nidhi were the best
interjectors in the finals. The
special prize for the best Ramjas
Aided Schools was won by Ramjas Girls
Sr. Sec. School, Darya Ganj.
In Hindi, Bal Bharti School,
Pitampura lifted the trophy while
Alwar Public School was the runner's
up. Lavish Tyagi of Dayawati Modi
Academy got best speaker award. Ayushi
Dadhichi got the second best speaker
award. The third prize was bagged by
Megha Nanda of Gyan Mandir School.
Akshit Ladda of Lovely Public School
and Vartika Aggarwal of Gyan Mandir
School won the consolation prizes. The
Best interjectors award in the prelims
went to Dwij Bajaj of Bal Bharti
Public School, Pitampura and Yugal
Kamboj of Ramjas School, Pusa Road. In
the finals the best interjectors were
Deepak Tiwari and Anadi Anant of
Ramjas No. 4. Ramjas Sr. Sec. School
No. 5 won the special prize for the
best Ramjas Aided School. Besides
these, ten Outstanding Speakers both
from Hindi and English were awarded
Special Prizes even though their teams
could not make it to the finals.
