The Ramjas Inter School Debate was first held in 1995 in English. Over 40 schools participated in the very first debate. Encouraged by this response, the debate in Hindi was begun in the subsequent year. The debate is held in two rounds–a preliminary and the finals. Six teams from each qualify for the Finals. The winners in the final round, bag the Running trophy which they get to keep with them for a year.
Each round of the debate has a different topic. Topics are chosen by a committee after much deliberations. Eminent people from all walks of life have judged the debates in various years. Some of the personalities invited were Mrs Louise Khurshid, Namita Gokhle, the well-known author, television news reader Rahul Singh, poet Surender Verma, Mrs Alka Shankar and Mrs Naveen Menon.

The Ramjas Inter School debate in
English and Hindi was held on 4th and
5th December 2009 at the Rai
Kedarnath Auditorium. The debate was
conducted in two stages – the
preliminary and the final
rounds. Over 50 schools of
Delhi participated in this round.
The debates in the Prelim round
were rich in quality and the arguments
were wide-ranging. Judges in both
debates were eminent teachers from
Delhi University and the media. Ten
teams each were selected for the
finals after this very grueling round.
The teams that made it in the finals
in English were New Era Public School,
Mayapuri, Bal Bharti PItam Pura, Amity
International School Saket, St. Thomas
School, Banyan Tree School, Ahlcon
Public School, Modern School,
Barakhamba Road, Ramjas School,
R.K. Puram, Ramjas School (Day boarding)
and Ramjas School Pusa Road. In Hindi
They were Amity International School,
Saket, Springdales, School, Dhaula
Kuan, St. Mark's School, Janakpuri,
N.C. Jinadal Public School New Era
Public School, St. Thomas School,
Ramjas School, R.K. Puram, Ramjas Sr.
Sec. School No. 2, Ramjas Sr. Sec.
School No. 5 and Ramjas School, Pusa
Road.
The topics for debates at the
finals were
"Youth Today
is on the brink of emotional
bankruptcy"
in English and "Asj
Charitra gol, baaki sabka mol" in Hindi.
The judges for the debates were Dr. Rameshwar
Raj, Dr. Rakesh Kumar and
Dr. Rimi Khillan for Hindi and Ms. Swati Pal, Mr. Anurag Mittal and Mr. Veerendra Kumar Mishra-all very
eminent scholars and writers. Smt
Suryakanthi Tripathi, Former
Ambassador to Spain, graced the
occasion as the Chief Guest for the
English debate. Dr Govind Vyas, well
known poet and Mantri, Hindi Bhawan
was the Chief Guest at the debate in
Hindi.
The winners the Running Trophy in
English were Ahlcon Public School, and the Runners up were
New Era Public School. In individual
prizes, the first prize went to
Prabhat G. Roy from Ahlcon Public
School. Two students Arushi Massey
from St Thomas and Sanjmeet Abrol of
New Era jointly bagged the second best
speaker's prize while Sayyantana Datta
of Ramjas School, R.K. Puram won the
third prize. The conslolation
prizes were awarded to Aditi Aggarwal
and Eapsita Mishra from Bal Bharati
Public School, Pitampura and Amity
International School, Saket
respectively. While Shashwat Dhar and
Shashank Singh were declared the best
interjectors in the Prelims, Kalyani
Chaudhary and Jigyasa were the best interjectors in the finals. The
special prize for the best aided Ramjas School was won by Ramjas
Sr. Sec. School No.1, Daryaganj.
In Hindi Amity International
School, Saket lifted the Trophy while
the host Ramjas School, Pusa Road were
runner's up. Sanskriti Sadana and
Puneet Ahuja from Amity International,
were declared the best and the second
beat speaker of the day. The third
prize was bagged by Aashta Rathore of
Ramjas School, Pusa Road, Deepali
Mittal and Ridhima Aneja of Ramjas
School, R.K. Puram and Springdales'
School respectively won the
consolation prizes. The Best
Interjector's award in Prelims went to
Saumya Guta and Ruman Nissar. In the
finals, the best interjectors were Surabhi Bhatia and Yogesh, Ramjas
Sr.Sec. School No.5 won the special
prize for the best-Ramjas aided
school.
Besides theses, ten outstanding
speaker both from Hindi and English
were awarded special prizes even though
their teams could not make it to the
finals.
