Hiking and Trekking

The Ramjas Foundation was the first one to start an outward bound school in Delhi. A trained and experienced high altitude mountaineer was appointed to organize and conduct all such adventure activities for the Ramjas schools. The first trek was taken to Pindari Glacier in what is now Uttaranchal in 1980 with two small groups of 20 students each and since then the numbers have grown. Today over 190 students participate in the trekking programme each year.

The Ramjas Outward Bound School now transformed into The Ramjas Sports and Mountaineering Institute is located in a vast ground in Patel Nagar and organizes these treks. 20 students and 2 teachers from Ramjas School, Pusa Road have been regularly going on these expeditions.

The trekking programmes are held in the summer vacation and are combined with a fair amount of social work in the area the students visit. Wherever they go, students work with the local people on issues such as ridding the area of plastic or cleaning the riverside or the hillside etc.

Places where students of Ramjas have trekked in the last two and a half decades include Sach Pass, Rohtang Pass, Beas Kund, Manimahesh, Indrahar Pass, Balkanda Pass in Himachal Pradesh; Kolai Glacier and Synthen Pass in Kashmir; Rupkund, Chandrashila Peak, Har-Ki-Dun, Sahasra Tal, Valley Of Flowers, Kuanri Pass, Damini Plateau, Dodhi Tal in Uttaranchal among others.

These expeditions are for ten days and quite strenuous physically. Such camps require plenty of physical stamina and endurance. So only students of senior classes have the pleasure and privilege of going on such trips.

For students from junior classes there are two day hiking and nature camps in Nainital.
